Group counselling takes place Monday to Friday from 10.30am - 12.00pm at Stevenage and St Albans. The groups are open to clients who are addicted to any substance (alcohol or drug) or compulsive behaviours such as gambling, eating disorders, sex addiction and self harm.

Group counselling is facilitated by two trained counsellors and is attended by up to 20 clients at any one time. Benefits of this peer-led approach are:

  • Stigma-busting - a new client is at ease because everyone in the room, including counsellors who have lived experience of addiction, are in recovery.
  • Clients are encouraged to share feelings that they may never have been able to express before. As fellow group-members are likely to have experienced these same feelings, individuals are encouraged to support each other.
  • A powerful motivational effect upon the individual that comes from this shared aspiration cannot be underestimated, as he/she is supported and challenged on a daily basis to grow, develop and overcome their illness.

Group workshops take place each afternoon (1pm - 2.30pm) in Stevenage and St Albans and are attended by clients with any addiction. During the workshop, issues raised in the morning will be explored to find solutions. We run facilitated workshops, show appropriate films and media, with the aim of equipping people with the knowledge and tools they need to progress with their recovery.
