Group counselling takes place daily with attendance from 10:30 - 14:30 every day in our Stevenage, St Albans and Watford centres*. On their first day here, clients will have an initial assessment at 9:10am. Clients are expected to attend the group for up to five days a week.

The groups are open to clients who are addicted to any substance (alcohol or drug) or compulsive behaviours such as gambling, eating disorders, sex and love addiction, gaming, exercise, work and self harm.

Monday to Friday from 10:30am - 12:00pm and each afternoon 1:00pm - 2.30pm*

Group counselling is facilitated by two trained counsellors and is attended by up to 20 people at any one time. Benefits of this peer-led approach are:

  • Stigma-busting - a new client is at ease because everyone in the room, including counsellors, have lived experience of addiction, and are in recovery.
  • Clients are encouraged to share feelings that they may never have been able to express before. As fellow group-members are likely to have experienced these same feelings, individuals are encouraged to support each other.
  • A powerful motivational effect upon the individual comes from shared aspirations  This cannot be underestimated as they are supported and challenged on a daily basis to grow, develop and overcome their illness.

We run facilitated, interactive workshops, show appropriate films and media and have group discussions; with the aim of equipping people with the knowledge and tools they need to progress with their recovery.

*In Watford, the main addiction group takes place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The sessions take place from 10:30am - 12:00pm and each afternoon 1:00pm - 2:30pm
