Group counselling takes place from 10:30am - 2:30pm in our four hubs. On your first day here, an initial assessment will take place at 9:10am. To make the most of group therapy, we recommend attending five days a week.

Groups are open to people who are addicted to any substance (alcohol or drug) or compulsive behaviours such as gambling, eating disorders, sex and love addiction, gaming, exercise, work and self harm.

Group counselling is facilitated by two counsellors with lived experience in recovery and is attended by up to 20 people at any one time. Benefits of this peer-led approach are:

  • Stigma-busting - a new group-member is at ease because everyone in the room, including counsellors, have lived experience of addiction, and are in recovery.
  • Group members are encouraged to share feelings that they may never have been able to express before. As fellow group-members are likely to have experienced these same feelings, individuals are encouraged to support each other.
  • A powerful motivational effect upon the individual comes from shared aspirations.  This cannot be underestimated as they are supported and challenged on a daily basis to grow, develop and overcome their addiction.

We run facilitated, interactive workshops, using various suitable forms of media leading to group discussions; with the aim of equipping people with the knowledge and tools they need to progress with their recovery.
